Giraffe Triptych

I decided to do something a little different for today’s post, I made a triptych out of three images. You can see the giraffe’s head slowly turning as she reaches for a mouthful of leaves. I’ll post larger versions down below, just because I love the really big images.

Indian Rhinoceros

As a sequel of sorts to my post yesterday, today’s post features one of the newest animals at the zoo, the Indian Rhinoceros. This is actually a pretty rare animal, as it was once hunted to near extinction. Not many zoos have them, so I feel privileged to be able to see them for myself. Fun trivia fact, this animal is actually the true “Unicorn”. This is actually still reflected in its Latin name, Rhinoceros unicornis even though no one actually calls it a unicorn any more. In the passages of the Bible that speak of Unicorns, this is what the ancient writers were talking about, not the mythical horned horse that everyone now associates with the word unicorn.

White Rhinoceros

One of the few animals that I had hardly ever visited at the zoo are the rhinoceroses. They live at the top of a hill and it’s a very long walk to get to them, so my family didn’t usually take the time to go see them. When I started going by myself I made sure to make a special trip up to see them for myself, and I have to say, they are huge and amazing, but I am glad they can’t jump, or the small moat between us would have been of no comfort at all. One thing that struck me about them is that seeing them in person, they almost look prehistoric. Like an ancient animal you'd expect to only find fossils of.

Crowned Crane

One of the most interesting birds at the zoo is the Crowned Crane. They are so unique! I love their feathers. They may not be as brightly colored as a lot of other exotic birds, but they are awesome in their own way.

Botanical Beauty

The animals aren’t the only things to photograph when one visits a zoo. I also love taking pictures of all the different plants they have there as well. And if you look closely, maybe a little creepy crawly or two.
